Floaters and Flashes Treatment Perth
What are floaters and flashes
Floaters – In your field of vision, floaters look like faded dots, small specks, circles, lines or cobwebs.
Whilst they seem to appear in front of your eye, they are actually tiny clumps cells or debris inside the vitreous body that fills your eye. What you are actually seeing are the shadows these clumps cast on your retina.
Flashes – Flashes can look like a light streak or a flash bulb in your field of vision. Flashes happen when the vitreous gel rubs or pulls on your retina.
As people age, it is common to see floaters and flashes occasionally.
The retina is a thin layer of tissue that lines the back of the inside of your eye. The retina receives light that the lens in your eye has focused. The retina converts the light into neural signals, and sends them to the brain for visual recognition.

Floaters and Flashes Treatment
The increase or sudden onset of floaters and/or flashes could be symptoms of a torn or detached retina. This is when the retina pulls away from the back of your eye.
Consult your doctor if:
-
- You notice a lot of new floaters or flashes
- A shadow appears in your peripheral (side) vision
- A grey curtain covers part of your vision.
These are potential signs of a serious condition that needs to be treated by a specialist.
